For those of you that deny that slavery was the #1 cause of the Civil War, take a good look at what happened in Kansas for 6 years prior to the Civil War. The war in Kansas has often been called the mini Civil War. The war in Kansas was fought over whether Kansas was going to be a slave or free state . There was no talk about tariffs or states rights or imports/exports. The issue was slavery. Groups of slave owners and others through out the south raised funds and men for going to Kansas to influence the vote for slave state while those in the north raised money and men for a free state . Read the book “Bleeding Kansas” for an eye opening history of what took place on the prairies.
