RE: [civilwarwest] Hey, Colleen... (and Bill Gower)
- Yes I am still working on the book. I have all my research done now. I
have compiled quite a few first hand accounts, newspaper articles, diaries,
letters etc on the battle. I would really appreciate the photos.

Subject: [civilwarwest] Hey, Colleen... (and Bill Gower)
From the O.R.:
On the evening of the third day I was ordered to re-enforce General
Barton, whose left was threatened. I ordered the Seventy-ninth
[Sixtieth] Tennessee, Colonel Crawford, to his support, which left me
but one regiment on the extreme left. The enemy were in strong force
in front of my line of pickets and made several attempts to drive my
forces from the line of abatis and woods, but failed.
Until this point, the 60th TN had been held in reserve near the race
track and saw no action. However, when they were ordered to Barton's
left, south of the indian mound, they suddenly found themselves in an
open field face-to-face with federal skirmishers and artillery that
were sitting just across the bayou. In this field is where they
suffered 5 men killed and one officer wounded.
I actually have pictures of this area taken back in February, and
I'll email them to you.
Bill, are you still writing your book on Chickasaw Bayou? What
pictures do you want of the place. I managed to snap most of the
shots I needed before I buried my camera in the goo.
