      I thought this might be of interest.   Most of the known soldiers who are buried here were killed at Prairie Grove, Pea Ridge, and other battles and skirmishes around NW Arkansas.  They are from Missouri, Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas.  If any one is interested in this Cemetery, it is owned and maintained by the SMA, Southern Memorial Association.  The SMA was started in 1872 by ladies of the NW Arkansas area to recover the bodies of Confederate soldiers from the various battles that were fought in this area.  In 1873 the first soldiers were brought to the cemetery and re buried in this lovely quiet place.  I am the treasurer of the SMA and if any one is interested in helping with this endeavor, membership dues are $5.00 per year.  The SMA is a non profit organization soley supported by its members and donations.  If interested, contact:
