      Not to mention junior in rank to many other officers (including his old
      antagonist W.H.T. Walker), who would have screamed bloody murder and/or
      resigned if Cleburne had been promoted over their heads---and thus
      might have found themselves in the employment of GA. Governor Joseph Brown,
      as did G.W. Smith, who had resigned for that very reason.
