      In most cases these were rank emblems or service emblems.
      the Feild Grade officers would have a Eagle (Col.) or Star ect...
      Or the various Branch emblem like the Caduseus for Medical or the
      Wreath for Staff ect...
      this along with the thickness of the Gold Trim denoted rank in most
      cases.
