      It would be difficult to identify those with union affliction as those
      operated with the blessing of General Grant, and were considered union
      soldiers, even though they operated as irregulars. BF Lazear was another
      that operated in this part of the state He was responsible for what is
      known in this part of the state as "The Mingo Swamp Affair", under orders
      from Grant to "give no quarter". to any "rebel trash". Lazear and his men
      killed 27 unarmed men at a farm in southern Bollinger County, even though
      more than half surrendered.

      The secessionist I believe were mainly interested in striking back at those
      who had attacked them first, revenge if will, I suppose.

      The reenactment group that we potray is one of these irregular groups that
      you have interest in. We were called the Swamp Rat Brigade by the Union.
