      Greetings ACEers,

This Saturday, July 28, all ACE members received a FREE All Day Ride & Waterpark Pass to Lakemont Park in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It's to celebrate the lift of Gary Baker as ACE Western Pennsylvania and Lakemont Park present Gary Baker Memorial Day.

If you didn't know Gary, he was a longtime ACE member who was a strong advocate for the amusement industry and roller coaster preservation. He was heavily involved in the fundraising that lead to the restoration of Leap the Dips, the world's oldest roller coaster, which is located at Lakemont Park. He also served ACE in numerous capacities, including as regional rep for ACE Western Pennsylvania and as ACE's national events director, a position that he held for six years. In Gary's honor, Lakemont Park and its former general manager, Barry Kumpf, created this annual event, the timing of which coincides with Gary's birthday, which this year was yesterday. In additional, while Gary loved all parks, especially the traditional ones, Lakemont was truly one of his favorites. He was even known to help out working at the park on busy days and to hang Christmas lights for Lights on the Lake.

Lakemont Park is open from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. To receive your free Lakemont Park All-Day Ride & Waterpark Pass, when you arrive at the park, stop in to the administrative offices at the front gate of the park and present your valid ACE membership card along with a valid government-issued photo ID (photo ID required only for adults). Parking at Lakemont is free, though if you arrive later in the day, note that there's an Altoona Curve game at 7 p.m. at the neighboring ballpark, so the availability of free parking may be limited as the game time nears. When you check in, be sure to sign up for the raffles, as we’ll be giving away a $25 Sheetz gift card to help pay for gas (winner must be from at least 50 miles away) and two free passes to the park's miniature golf course, all compliments of our friends at IRM (International Rides Management).

This is an informal event. No registration is required. There is no ERT and no group meals. However, we do have the entirely optional schedule of IToTs (Informal Takeover Times) should you wish to meet up with your fellow ACE members:

      11:30 a.m.   IToT on Skyliner

Noon            IToT on Lizzy Antique Cars

12:30 p.m.   IToT on Leap the Dips (additional $2.50 upcharge attraction)

1:15 p.m.     Lunch at Bubba's BBQ Shack (near Leap the Dips)
2 p.m.          Drawing for $25 Sheetz gift card and two free rounds of miniature golf (at the Traintown Miniature Golf entrance)

2 p.m.          Traintown Miniature Golf ($3 upcharge attraction; miniature golf was a favorite of Gary's!)

3:15 p.m.     IToT on Bumper Cars

3:45 p.m.     IToT on the Train

      4:15 p.m.     IToT on Toboggan

      4:45 p.m.     IToT on Skyliner

Considering Lakemont Park's generosity in hosting this event, we encourage you to support the park by purchasing food, rides on Leap the Dips and the Monster Speedway Go Karts, miniature golf and other items during your visit.

We hope your able to join us for this special day to remember Gary Baker.
