A Manger And A Cross
In the stars' bright light shepherds hear
angelic host proclaim the news;
While unblemished lambs resting near -
await the Seder of the Jews.
The shepherds whispered in their hearts
what John Baptist later thundered:
"Behold the Lamb of God" - imparts
a sense of hope, and joy, and wonder.
O Bethlehem, thou "House of Bread"
we see thee worthy of thy name;
There, sleeping in thy manger bed
the "Bread of Life" this Child became.
Frankincense and Myrrh -
Their fragrance fills Thy room;
Wise men gave to Thee at birth
perfumes later for Thy tomb.
The shadow of a cross, we see -
It falls upon Thy infant face;
It will later set the sinner free
This emblem of Thy love and grace.
