Gunman involved in attack against policemen is killed in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA, March 6 (Itar-Tass) -- A gunman from an illegal armed group, who participated in a recent attack against policemen, was killed in a special operation in Derbent on Saturday.

Islamutdin Alikuliyev, born in 1988, was blocked in a garage in the area of the city's meat-packing plant at about 10:30 Moscow time. He opened fire in response to the order to surrender and was killed in the exchange of fire. A submachine gun was found near him, the press service of the Federal Security Service’s department in Dagestan told Itar-Tass.

Alikuliyev participated in the attack against policemen near the village of Mamedkala in the republic’s Derbent district on March 3, when gunmen on the Kavkaz federal highway opened submachine gun fire at policemen in response to the order to stop. Two policemen were wounded. There was an exchange of fire. The car of the gunmen was found later in a forest, and the dead body of one of the attackers was also found there. A criminal case was opened over the gunmen's attack.
