- One militant killed, two detained in Chechnya
GROZNY, November 5 (Itar-Tass) - One militant was killed and two others
detained in Chechnya during a security sweep carried out in the
republic, the chief of the Chechen Interior Ministry’s press service,
Magomed Deniyev, said on Thursday.
According to Deniyev, an unidentified person fired several shots with a
handgun at police who tried to detain him. In the shootout that followed
the criminal was killed. A passport issued in the name of Artur
Dugzayev, a handgun, two loaded magazines and a makeshift grenade were
found on him.
Deniyev said Dugzayev had returned to Chechnya from Baku ten days ago
with the aim of joining a gang operating in the republic’s Urus-Martan
Deniyev also said police had detained a resident of Grozny, who since
January had been a member of a gang operating in the Shali district, and
a resident of the Staryie Atagi village, who was a member of the
militant underground in 1999.
Investigators are probing into the detainees's past with the aim to find
out if they may have been involved in other crimes in Chechnya.
