      01.06.2005

MAKHACHKALA, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - Six policemen sustained minor blast
injuries here late on Tuesday night. They did not receive any shrapnel
or gunshot wounds, a source at the admission ward of the city's
central clinical hospital has told Itar-Tass.

There has been no word about any other victims so far.

The power of the explosive device that went off here late on Tuesday
night was five to six kilogrammes in TNT equivalent. The blast occured
when a bus with policemen was at the intersection of Dakhadayev and
Bogatyryov Streets, a source in the Daghestani Republic's law
      enforcement agencies has told Itar-Tass.

The explosion smashed window panes in nearby houses. A combined field
investigation team of the Federal Security Service department, the
Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor's Office of the republic is at
work at the scene of the incident.

According to preliminary data, militants planted a radio-controlled
explosive device full of destructive elements on the side of the road.
Experts maintain that the blast was similar to all the previous ones
directed against the personnel of law enforcemen agencies here.

The prosecutor's office has instituted criminal proceedings in
connection with the blast under the provisions of the article
concerning "encroachment on the life of a law enforcement agency
      officer".
