Military Operations in Chechnya
CHECHNYA, Grozny. (ORChD [Society of Russian-Chechen Friendship]
Information Centre). The past few days have seen fighting, shootings and
‘zachistkas’ [sweep operations] continue without let up throughout towns
and villages in Chechnya. On 29 September, Federal Forces arrested 11
senior students from the school in the district centre of Nozhai-Yurt.
On the same day, Taus Ayubova, a resident of Grozny visiting relatives
in Nozhai-Yurt, was killed in crossfire.
In fighting between Federal Forces and Chechen resistance units over the
last several days in the village of Alera in the Kurchaloev District, no
less than 12 militiamen and 17 Russian servicemen have been killed.
During the night of 29 September, Federal artillery forces shelled
mountainous and forested areas in the districts of Urus-Martan,
Achkoi-Martan and Shatoi. Two homes were destroyed in the foothills
village of Orekhovo in the Achkoi-Martan district.
