      Arab mercenary killed in Ingushetia

NAZRAN. July 2 (Interfax) - Arab mercenary Abu Kuteiba was killed in
the town of Malgobek, Ingushetia, during a special operation,
      Interfax has learned.

Kuteiba was a close associate of warlord Khattab and was involved in
terrorist attacks in Chechnya and outside it, said Major-General Ilya
Shabalkin, a representative of the regional operative headquarters
directing the operation in the Northern Caucasus.

Kuteiba was one of the organizers of the June 22 attack on the Ingush
towns of Nazran, Karabulak and Slepsovskaya. Kuteiba was located as a
result of a special operation and was killed while trying to resist
      the federal troops, Shabalkin said.

According to the regional operative headquarters, Kuteiba arrived in
Chechnya together with Khattab in early 1995. He was among the mining
instructors in the Kavkaz terrorist training camp and was a member of
the supreme military majilis, the highest rebel authority in the
      Northern Caucasus.

Kuteiba has been linked to international terrorists and rebels in
Chechnya, Shabalkin said. No special service officials were hurt
      during the special operation.

SAUDI ARABIAN SHOT DOWN IN INGUSHETIA

GROZNY, July 2 (RIA Novosti) -Major General Ilya Shabalkin of the
regional counter-terrorist operations headquarters said a Saudi
Arabian had been killed in Ingushetia Friday when trying to offer
resistance during his detention (Ingushetia is a Russian republic
        neighbouring on Chechnya).

"Yesterday early in the morning, Ingush security officers eliminated
in the town of Magolbek Abou Kuteiba Jammal born 1960, a subject of
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the mastermind and head of a
terrorist gang operating in Chechnya, Ingushetia, Daghestan and
        Kabardino-Balkaria." reported Sahabalkin.

According to Shabalkin, Kuteiba was directly involved in the raids on
a number of facilities in Ingushetia in the early hours of June 22,
killing 97 people and injuring more than 100.

Shabalkin said Kuteiba had lost a leg when fighting in Yugoslavia on
the side of the Islamists. This terrorist was also known as Jammal
Mazar, Younis, Abou Muhammad, Abu Khumid and Abdul Fafti.

"He was close to the earlier-killed terrorist Khattab, was an
emissary of foreign Islamic centres and used to finance Abou al-Walid
and the gangs subject to him," said Shabalkin.

Kuteiba made his appearance in Chechnya together with Khattab in
        1995, he said.

"Abou Kuteiba led subversion groups which acted in the Vedeno and
Nozhai-Yurtovsky districts of Chechnya, was a Supreme Majlis-Shura
member responsible for the media coverage of gangs' activity and had
the exclusive right to place Internet information conveyed by groups
of Arab mercenaries in Chechnya," reported Shabalkin.

Before the counter-terrorist operation, Kuteiba, an expert on mine-
laying and explosions, headed the terrorist training camp "Caucasus"
in the village of Serzhen-Yurt as well as participated in the attack
on Daghestan in 1999, Shabalkin added.

Abou Kuteiba's gang accounts for a number of brazen acts of terrorism
against civilians, federal forces and Chechen and Ingush law
        enforcement bodies, concluded Shabalkin.
        ----------------------------------------------------------------------
FYI According to Russian media a unit under Abu Kuteiba's command was
also responsible for decimating a convoy of OMON troopers from Perm,
near Zhani-Vedeno. More than 40 troopers got killed then.
Because he had a leg prosthesis, he was first identified as Basayev
(according to Ingushetiya ru), later on the Russian military said
        that was Abu Kuteiba.

Rebel command post destroyed in Ingushetia

          02.07.2004, 19.52

NAZRAN, July 2 (Itar-Tass) -- A rebel command post has been destroyed
in Ingushetia, Ingush acting interior minister Beslan Khamkhoyev told
          Itar-Tass.

He said articles confiscated in Malgobek confirmed the involvement of
rebels in the attack in Ingushetia on June 22. The police found
computers, a North Caucasian map, a list of field commanders, field
commanders' pay sheet, video-and-audiotapes, grenade throwers,
          firearms and other weaponry.

The police operation was held on Thursday morning. Two police
officers were killed and one was wounded in the fire exchange. Four
rebels were killed and two were captured. One of the killed rebels
was identified as an organizer of the attack in Ingushetia, Saudi
Arabian citizen Abu Quteiba. He was a close supporter of notorious
Khattab and an emissary of international terrorist organizations, who
channeled financing to rebel groups in Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia
          and Kabardino-Balkaria.
