        2 TERRORISTS KILLED IN CHECHNYA

GROZNY, May 5 (RIA Novosti) - Two terrorists from Shamil Basayev's
gang were killed during a special operation in the Sunzhensky
district of Chechnya, RIA Novosti was told in the Regional
Operational Staff for controlling the anti-terrorist operation in the
        North Caucasus on Wednesday.

"A federal forces unit conducted a targeted special operation to
neutralize the participants of the bandit underground in the village
of Sernovodskaya," said a staff representative. In his words, Ibragim
Badayev and Husain Visangiriyev put up armed resistance and were
        killed by return fire.

"Both militants were members of illegal armed formations of Shamil
Basayev, and earlier, of the gang called Galanchouzhsky battalion,"
said the source. He said the bandits were involved in a number of
terrorist acts against civilians and executives, including the March
19, 2004 murder of the head of the Criminal Police Service of the
        Achkhoi-Martan regional internal affairs department.

During examination of the fight site, a Shmel flame-thrower, an RPG-
26 grenade launcher, an RPK machine-gun, seven rounds for a PG-7
grenade launcher, four hand grenades, over one hundred 5.45-mm
cartridges, and Wahhabite literature were discovered.

Besides, personal records of illegal armed formations' members were
discovered in the house. Accomplices of Badayev and Visangiriyev are
        being searched for now.
