PRESS RELEASE of the Danish Refugee Council
Last week a number of the Russian media sources published information about
intention of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) to relocate its field office
from Nazran (Republic of Ingushetia) to the neighboring Chechnya and to divert
humanitarian assistance channeled through DRC for Chechnya IDPs staying in
Ingushetia to the Chechen Republic.
Thereupon, the Danish Refugee Council would like to state the following:
1. Due to the present security situation in Chechnya and several other
factors, DRC has never considered a possibility to establish permanent
presence in Chechnya and will continue managing the humanitarian operations
from its office in Nazran.
2. The Danish Refugee Council has never assumed or examined a possibility to
redirect its humanitarian assistance, being distributed to Chechnya displaced
living in Ingushetia, to the Chechen Republic. DRC will continue providing
relief aid to those Chechnya internally displaced people willing to stay in
As part of its Emergency Assistance Program, the Danish Refugee Council, being
a lead humanitarian agency in the North Caucasus, is providing humanitarian
aid to more than 400,000 Chechnya internally displaced people on the territory
of Ingushetia, Chechnya and Dagestan, as well as to the vulnerable population
groups inside Chechnya. DRC will keep on its work aimed to relieve sufferings
of the victims of the conflict in Chechnya.
