      Total losses of Russia in Chechnya: 2,728 killed, 7,971 wounded

      MOSCOW. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Deputy Chief of the General Staff
      of the Russian Armed Forces Col. Gen. Valery Manilov told a
      Friday briefing in Moscow that the federal side has lost 2,728
      servicemen since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation in
      Chechnya on October 1, 1999.
      Over the same period 7,971 soldiers and officers have
      been wounded.
      The figure does not include federal losses incurred during
      the effort to stamp out rebels invading neighboring Dagestan in
      summer 1999.
