I also found this group with the idea of getting help. I think the
instructions for setting up scripts are based on a person
understanding more than I do, or maybe it's easier than WE think?
Thanks for the link to the tutorial.
I've been trying to configure and set up Matt's scripts OR
WebBBS,which are discussion boards.
I don't understand about setting up the different directories,
setting the paths to the files to them, and "appending" one file to
I was hoping someone would be hear that could start out with step
one, in a little bit easier and more basic way. I have found two free
servers that allow cgi-perl scrips and have a www (main) file and cgi-
bin file. I'm also new to ftp, which I've been using for this
(setting up files, directories, etc).
One thing I've run into is "you don't have permission for this",
which has something to do with setting CHMOD. One tutorial said to
use telnet (which I think brings you into files on a remote server).
I'd rather not use that if I don't have to, it's just one more
confusing thing (LOL) I have Cute ftp (trial version) but then
someone on a board told me to use FS_FTP95 which I got and don't
think is as easy or does as much as Cute.
I taught myself how to make webpages (using Angelfire (which does
allow ftp so I got to practice some on that) and Dreamwater (which
doesn't) and now would like to move on to learning something else.
What I've been finding for directions about cgi-perl scripts is
like trying to read and understand a foreign language.
I'll check out the tutorial link you gave. Maybe this will be
something to help me. We have to start somewhere.
Like you, I just want to see it work!!!! (and then remember how I
did it to get it to work).
