      Burn, baby, burn!!

Leftovers is excellent.  Would love to hear Dave's take on THAT show!  I'm 2 episodes behind tho, so can't talk to recent eps.

I've not seen any Twin Peaks reeves shoes but have been watching The Leftovers. Love that show.

Oh yeah. I haven't even bothered to watch the last episode in the X-Files reboot.

Been a while for Mark Frost, too.  Looks like his last work was the first 2 FF movies (Raimi aside) - so nothing in 10 years!

Totally agree it wasn't boring - the 1 hour I saw went by quickly.  The dreamy guy/grounded guy combo has great precedents, ranging from Lennon/McCarthy to Claremont/Byrne.  Would be really cool if this revival turns out great (it's already head and shoulders above such recent revivals as The X-Files, to name one).

There was a little bit of music here and there, but mostly more of what I guess you would call a soundscape--noise like wind, etc. Angelo Badalamenti is credited for music, and the original theme music does make brief appearances, but other than that and occasional use of soundtrack music (e.g. the bar singer in episode two, the thrashy song we might imagine is on the radio in the car in episode one--apparently a version of "American Woman," according to the credits), I don't recall much, if anything, that one would normally think of as a score.

I have also cooled a lot on Lynch over the years. His last really good film, imo, is The Straight Story, and Inland Empire was imo unwatchable. Well, I DID watch it, but I think you know what I mean. However, Mark Frost is back as co-writer, which I hope will help give this a bit more conventional narrative coherence and logic. So far, yes, there has been a lot of Lynch weirdness (weirdest perhaps being the Man from Another Place replaced by a talking tree with a bizarre alienesque head), but it is also gorgeous to look at, and though it is perhaps too early to say whether there is a plot, there are at least what might be called plot elements. I did find that the two hours went by quickly, which is a good sign--especially since in some ways the material is literally slow: Lynch loves long pauses and slow delivery.

I had a similar view.  Only watched the first of the 2 eps shown last night (altho I see the first 4 eps are now all on the SHO Anytime app).  The scene in NYC seemed vintage TP to me.  How awesome to see Bobb'ed up Agent Cooper.

The totally odd thing I noticed tho: no music/score? W@as there any in the first 2 eps?  Was weird.

I've had pretty low expectations for this - given Lynch's lack of output in quite a while (also I waver on and off on him as a general rule - but always have had a flame for TP), so I was not disappointed, and am looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Based on the first two episodes, and off the top of my head for others I remember seeing listed as being back: Dale Cooper, Gordon Cole, Andy, Lucy, Hawk, James, Bobby, Leo, Shelley, Laura, Leland, Mrs Palmer, the Log Lady (shot some scenes before she died), Ben Horne, Jerry Horne, Audrey Horne, Albert Rosenfield (again, he shot some scenes before he died), the one-armed man, Norma, Ed Hurley, Nadine Hurley, the French-Canadian bartender guy, Carl Rodd (Harry Dean Stanton--from the FWWM movie), the Giant, Dr, Jacoby, no doubt others.

NOT back, for various reasons (or not played by the original actors, anyway--there are dozens of new actors, with their characters not yet identified, and there have been rumours that some original characters have been recast, as Donna was for the FWWM movie): The Man from Another Place, BOB (actor is dead), Pete (actor is dead). Sheriff Truman, Catherine Martell, Donna, Josie Packard, Agent Jeffries (David Bowie in FWWM--was supposed to be back, apparently, but died before shooting anything), Agents Desmond and Stanley (also FWWM), probably others.

The first couple of episodes were ... interesting. Not game-changers, the way the original series was, and probably largely impenetrable to anyone who didn't watch the original series. OTOH, there's a lot of trademark Lynch stuff, and some very interesting developments. Very much the "old" TP in some ways, very much a completely new/different thing in others.

I hope they include the extended flashback detailing David Bowie's character's
investigation into the Black Lodge. It's in the original screenplay. I don't remember the
details, but I remembering reading it and thinking it was pretty cool.

Also, more Chris Isaak and Keifer Sutherland would be nice. I really like that intro
      segment.

So who's in on the new show??

Can't help but think of our Departed friend John, who was a big fan. (I'll bet he'd have liked The Leftovers, too! :^)
