My son who is now 26 yrs old, was born 2 months
premature and at 5 1/2 weeks old started having
seizures which one year later was diagnosed as a
stroke. I have pictures of him taken 5 days before
the seizures and a PT told me that these pictures
showed her that he may have had undiagnosed problems
then. His arms were straight and extended above his
head and fists clenched. I had concerns and spoke
with my then pediatrician during Jason's 4 week
checkup and he said it was probly due to the
        prematurity.

Since then, over the years, I still have nagging
thoughts that Jason could have had birth trauma etc.,
but at this point in time all I can due is cope with
his disability and know that I may not know why until
God reveals it to me later.

Do you have any way of checking into birth parents
etc. I know that there are confidentiality laws which
is sad because if you are given information, you will
be able to plan for therapies and know what to look
for. I am a resource specialist now and have contact
with grandparents, relations, and foster parents who
are caring for children exposed prenatally to
drugs(legal and illegal, alchohol, etc. These factors
can cause problems depending on exposure during fetus
brain development. A resource is Ira J. Chasnoff,
M.D. who has written a book called: THE NATURE OF
NURTURE, there is also a software program which helps
with diagnosis and intervention of behaviors, etc.
Studies have been done on maternal and paternal drug
exposure and the effect on an unborn baby's
development. Some exposures cause mutated sperm and
now the diagnosis includes father's exposure where
before the concern was mainly in regards to the
        mother.

I don't know if this helps or confuses you more. But
I was led to communicate it to you.
