        Adam,
I am new to the group but I saw your post. My daughter Rachel is 3 1/2 and had her first round of Botox and alcohol blocks in October. The doctor sedated her so she was in no discomfort when they did the shots. I am wondering why they would torture any child without first sedating them. Rachel's blocks worked out great so far. She is a lot looser and after a couple of hours She long sat unassisted for the first time in her life! Her gait has also improved. Hope your son is feeling better and I'm sorry to hear that he had such a hard time.

Hi All! Wanted to add my two cents on the Btox topic. My son
Dominick is about to have his second round. His first was in his
calves without sedation(he did pretty good with it) and then
followed the inj. with serial casting every week for a month. We
were able to get his left foot at 90 degrees for the first time in
his life!(he is now three years old). It was great..he could then
wear his AFO. Unfortunately his PT forgot to sign us up for the
clinic the next time the specialist came to town and we missed it so
now we by the time Feb. 3 gets her(next clinic) it will be 8 months
since his last inj. and he has lost alot of that range. (it also
didn't help that he out grew his AFO and a new one had to be ordered
and took four weeks to get!). For anyone new to Botox it is my exp.
that it is very important to stay on top of the inj. because they
really worked for us but they do "wear off" if let go too long.
anyway, just my two cents. Good luck everyone!

Hi Adam! Sorry it took me so long to write back but with four boys home
from school for Winter Break, I haven't had much computer time!
Chris had his first round of Botox at the end of July. He got four
injections ( 2 each bilaterally) in his inner upper thigh and behind his
knee. We went to see the neurologist at the end of November and she said
there is a 75% improvement in range of motion. He is scheduled for another
round at the end of February. He was a little distressed during the first
set because he was unsure of what was going on but he is prepared for the
injections in February. He says that they help his legs not to hurt so much
and that he doesn't mind ( He will be 6 on January 17th).
Though the chances that Christian will ever walk without some kind of
appliance are slim, we continue with the botox because they help ease the
              pain of the contractures.
              Hope this helps!
              Lynn
