      Fall shorebird migration is underway.
Bird surveys at the City of Davis Wetlands (not open to public) revealed
one flyover MARBLED GODWIT on July 3, along with 9 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS. The middle pond at the Davis Oxidation Ponds is getting
low and seems to offer the best habitat around at present. The
construction is now over at the Davis Ox Ponds and I assume birders
are allowed in if they check in at the office. They keep normal
business hours, usually very early in the am to 3pm, and also Sat
      mornings.

A number of interesting water birds have been present at the Davis
Wetlands this summer. A CLARK'S GREBE, a BUFFLEHEAD, and 1 and
now 2 COMMON GOLDENEYES have been present through July 3.
Ted Beedy's Yolo Co. checklist shows no July records for these, and
no June for the latter two. Also, 2 LESSER SCAUPS were present
through late June. An AMERICAN WIGEON is present as well.

      good birding,

      Steve Hampton
