      10 Secrets About Karla Mosley

      July 17, 2017 3:31PM

      1. The first Broadway show I ever saw was Starlight Express. One of my mom’s co-workers — he was a custodian at her job — one day said, “Do you want to come see my show?” He was the lead! I remember the lights going down, and this burst of music and light, and I thought, “This is what I want to do!”
      2. I am notorious for putting things on backward. I do it all the time. It’s really embarrassing.
      3. I keep angel cards in my dressing room for inspiration, and I leave them out for other people who happen to be using the room on a day I’m not working.
      4. I love summer. I love the heat, the humidity, and I love the feeling that everyone gets to slow down a bit.
      5. My favorite perfume is called Secret Sucré by Molinard, which I got when we were in Monte Carlo a couple of years ago.
      6. I crochet. I used to do it on set a lot [during her run as GUIDING LIGHT’s Christina] but I don’t do it as much because I don’t live in cold weather anymore. It’s great because it’s something you can do, put down and then pick up again very easily.
      7. I once ran into Stevie Wonder in Whole Foods. I had just seen him, like, two nights before in concert for the very first time. I turned the corner and he was picking out juice or something and I was like, “Oh, my God!”
      8. My favorite place is Hawaii, but there’s so much more traveling I would love to do. I’d go to Vietnam, Thailand, India, West and East Africa.
      9. The dream role I would love to play is Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors.
      10. My favorite holiday is New Year’s because as a kid, I loved being able to stay up late and spend time with my cousins and now, I like the idea of taking stock of the year gone by and thinking about what I want to put into the year that’s coming up.

Y&R Alum Shemar Moore Remembers Emmy Wins

      July 13, 2017 12:41PM

Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm, Y&R), who found success after daytime with 11 seasons on CRIMINAL MINDS and will now star in the upcoming CBS reboot of S.W.A.T., announced the Prime-Time Emmy nominations today — and he still hasn’t forgotten his soap roots. In an interview with KTLA’s Sam Rubin minutes after the announcements, Moore described the feeling of being part of a live award-related telecast. “I won a Daytime Emmy 9000 years ago [in 2000 for Outstanding Supporting Actor], but I know what it feels like,” he explained. “It’s a nice pat on the back. It’s a nice validation. You’re entertaining people. You’re moving people. It’s a good feeling to hear your name like that, so for me to stand there.… the last time I did anything close to this was many years ago [in 1999], I gave Susan Lucci [ex-Erica, ALL MY CHILDREN] her first Emmy! It was her first win in 19 tries and I almost cussed on live TV because I looked at the envelope and I was like, ‘Oh….’ and I came up with, ‘The streak is over! Susan Lucci!’ and they gave her a 5 minute standing ovation — so doing this today was just as cool.”

      Quick Take With Emme Rylan

      July 17, 2017 12:57PM

(Digest spoke with Rylan before she welcomed a daughter on June 26.)

How has the home stretch of pregnancy been?

“I’m feeling good, but I look like I’m carrying twins! It’s ridiculous. I make the biggest babies. I’ve looked like I’m nine months pregnant for months! My boys [Jackson, 7, and Levi, 5] were 9 pounds, and the doctor said, ‘I think this baby is going to be bigger than her brothers.’ But I’m not as big in person as I am on camera. When I take that wardrobe off, I look like I lost, like, 20 pounds.”

You were soliciting baby names from fans on Twitter. Was that helpful?

“It was actually really helpful! A couple that were favorites of mine came up in people’s suggestions. I posted that because I was like, ‘I cannot come up with her freaking name! I need other people to give me names!’ The baby’s last name is Money, because Don’s [her partner] last name is Money. That’s a very hard last name to have as a girl! She needs, like, the driest, most unsexy first name to counteract that so it doesn’t sound like a porn star name. We’ve been referring to the baby as No Name, like, ‘Take this to No Name’s room.’ Jackson wanted to name her Pinkie Pie. I told him, ‘You’re fired and you’re not allowed to be a part of this process [laughs].’ ”

In your fictional life, Lulu finally got custody of Charlotte — but now Valentin is coming back.

“We shot an episode where Lulu and Charlotte were just in, like, a utopia of joyful bonding time, and that’s when I knew, ‘Oh, no, it’s too good. Something bad is coming.’ On a soap, the happier you get, the sooner it’s going to completely fall apart!”

You love playing high drama, so you must be pleased to have James Patrick Stuart (Valentin) back on the scene.

“Oh, absolutely. He’s a really amazing addition to our show. When you have a bad guy that’s just a bad guy, there’s a point where you just don’t care. You’re like, ‘I just want you to get put in jail and that’s that.’ Good bad guys make you feel, like, ‘I hate you and I feel sorry for you!’ To me, that’s what he’s created, where it’s not one-dimensional. ‘He’s a murderer — awww, but he’s such a good dad! Wait, how did you get us on your side?’ It’s really, really fun working with him.”

I think “Lante” fans appreciate that Lulu and Dante are taking Valentin on together.

“Yes, I totally agree. Sometimes when I say, ‘I want the drama,’ people get upset because they’re like, ‘But we like Dante and Lulu together!’ Can’t we be happy and have drama that isn’t wrecking our family? I think it’s good that they are happy together and a united front, but I think we can be together and have drama.”

      ICYMI Tristan Lake Leabu Interview

      July 12, 2017 1:42PM

With a mixed bag of creativity in his DNA, it was almost predestined that Tristan Lake Leabu would wind up in the spotlight. “My parents were both models but my dad, Jeff, is also a guitarist, a singer and an artist,” explains the lanky 17-year-old. “When I was growing up, he worked for the art departments of studios, building sets, so he’s an amazing carpenter. He taught me how to play chords on the guitar and put the taste in my mouth for ’60s and ’70s rock and roll, blues, folk and jazz.”

Leabu’s mother, Jennifer, sings, plays the piano and once had a career in acting, which enticed her son to follow the same path. “She would go on auditions but have to take me along because my dad was working,” he recalls. “When I was 5 years old, I asked her if I could get my own auditions and it all started rolling from there.”

More like soaring. After competing against over 100,000 kids, Leabu was cast as the Man of Steel’s young son, Jason, in Superman Returns, which starred Brandon Routh (ex-Seth, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) as the title character, along with Kate Bosworth and James Marsden (“I looked enough like all three that it worked”). The longish tresses Leabu was sporting at the time of his audition played in his favor. “For the longest time my mom actually cut my hair,” he shares. “But Bryan Singer, the director, said, ‘Don’t cut his hair. Don’t touch it. I love it. It’s perfect.’ ”

During filming, Leabu fondly recalls “everybody treating me really well and not speaking to me like a baby, but there were days when I didn’t feel like working because I was so young.” Although the 2006 movie debuted to mixed reviews, Leabu is still proud of his first professional acting job. “It’s a beautiful love story,” he notes. “It’s not violent or too much of an action film because it’s really story-driven. I’m honored that I was a part of it.”

While his parents eventually dropped out of the entertainment biz (“My dad’s primarily a fine artist and woodworker with his own studio, and my mom is a jewelry designer”), Leabu continued to appear in movies and TV. “My childhood was pretty wonderful because I’ve been in the industry for so long that it’s just been normal,” he reflects. “Both of my parents have been really supportive and proactive in all of my endeavors. I’ve always gone to public schools, and the teachers have been very understanding about me making up for time when I had to work. I’m not in school anymore because I graduated two years early.”

Landing the role of moody 15-year-old Reed was Leabu’s first foray into daytime, and it’s a genre he immediately found refreshing. “The way that soaps operate is so different from any TV show or film that I’ve done,” he enthuses. “It’s exhilarating because you don’t do very many takes compared to a movie, where you sit there and you do the same scene for two or three hours just to get all the angles and everybody’s coverage. A soap set already has many cameras, so you get everyone’s coverage at once and you can bust out a scene in one take. It helps you stay focused and excited to keep going through your day. Nothing’s ever tedious.”

Leabu also feels Reed’s teen angst has true-to-life resonance. “I think how he’s experimenting with things, like drinking, and what he’s putting his mother through is very well-written,” opines the actor. “I really enjoy playing those things. I don’t know if I was ever rebellious like him. I don’t consider myself tame but I never really rebelled.”
Though he looks forward to some things changing on his 18th birthday this August (“I’m finally getting my driver’s license and maybe finding my own place”), Leabu is happy to live in the here and now. “It’s definitely been a fun and positive experience,” he sums up. “Every day I leave there feeling really good and looking forward to what’s ahead for Reed.”

      Did You Know?

      • For his Superman Returns role, Leabu won a 2007 Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film by a Supporting Young Actor.

      • You can watch him sing and play guitar during different phases of his life on YouTube.

      • He is learning to be a luthier, which is someone who makes and repairs stringed instruments.

      Mama Drama

Though Reed clashes with his exasperated mother, Victoria, Leabu’s relationship with her portrayer, Amelia Heinle (r.), is much better. “Oh, my God, I have so much fun working with her!” he declares. “Even though we’re in really intense scenes, we bust out laughing. It’s hilarious. Our characters are going back and forth, yelling and arguing, but when we hear ‘Cut!’, we just burst into laughter. We’ve got a good relationship”.

He feels the same way about Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) and Eric Braeden (Victor). “My ‘grandparents’ are really great people,” Leabu praises. “I love them. Any day I get to work with them is a good day. Melody is amazing and sweet and so funny. In between takes, we share stories and she’s told me about her experience working on the show. She’s also impressed by my musical taste. She was like, ‘I can’t believe that’s the stuff you listen to! How old are you?’ And Eric is really interesting. I enjoy his company and he’s so professional. I’ve learned a lot from watching them all work.”

      Just The Facts

      Birthday: August 19

Born And Raised: Los Angeles, CA

Say What? Leabu is pronounced La-boo.

Known As: “My first name was because my dad was reading Tristan and Isolde at the time my mom found out she was pregnant with me. My mom is from Lubbock, Texas, where there’s a lot of lakes around. That’s where she got the idea for my middle name.”

Rug Rat: Leabu has a little sister, Aria Lyric Leabu, 8, who’s an actress.

Play It Again: In addition to guitar, he plays the mandolin and harmonica, as well
      as “bad” drums and piano.

Downtime: “I’m an avid record collector, I like sketching nature, writing poetry and songs, and I’m also a bicyclist.”

Pet Set: “We’ve got two little dogs. We found our Rat Terrier running around in Koreatown and named him Jet. The other one is a Corgi I found a couple of years ago. He just ran up to me at this park and I called my mom, so she came and picked him up. His name is Leroy.”

Ian Buchanan Reveals Details of His Return to THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL! (EXCLUSIVE)

Great news! Ian Buchanan is coming back to daytime, but sadly for GENERAL HOSPITAL fans, he won’t be reprising his role of the dearly departed Duke Lavery. Nope! This time he’s returning to THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL as psychiatrist James Warwick! And as surprising as the news was to fans, the actor also never expected to see himself back on the CBS sudser. “I never thought about it,” he admitted to Soaps In Depth. I guess things happen, and great things happen, so it was a very nice surprise.”

B&B recently brought Kimberlin Brown back as Sheila Carter, and while the villain claims to have reformed, the Forrester family isn’t quite convinced. So her former shrink, James, is brought back into the picture to try and find out exactly what’s up with her! Buchanan began taping at the beginning of July with his first episode scheduled to air on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

“Not so much has changed,” the daytime vet admitted of returning to the B&B studio. “A lot of the crew are people that I know, so that makes it nice to come here. It’s lovely. It’s all very familiar. Of course, The Grove is right next door, and that’s a pleasant change. It used to just be the Farmer’s Market, which we all used to love and go to for lunch.”

In addition to GH and B&B, the daytime vet has also played Greg Madden on ALL MY CHILDREN and Ian McAllister on DAYS OF OUR LIVES. For his work on B&B, Buchanan earned five Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor, taking home the trophy in 1997.

“It’s very funny,” Buchanan said of his various soap roles. “I played a gynecologist and James is a psychiatrist with a medical background. It’s funny because it always reminds me of that commercial that said, ‘I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV.’ I feel like for half of my life I’ve played these professional people that get into very dramatic situations. It’s so far removed from my own life. I tend to lead a fairly mellow, low-key life.”

James first appeared on B&B back in 1993 when fellow psychiatrist Taylor helped him work through his issues with his abusive father, Damon. But when Eric brought Sheila to James to deal with her antisocial behavior, that was the beginning of a crazy roller coaster ride of kidnappings, attempted suicides, marriages, and babies! And Buchanan is hoping that the soap will offer up some fun flashbacks of James and Sheila’s colorful history.

“I met Kimberlin’s son and she said, ‘Oh, this is the one I was pregnant with when you pushed me off the roof in my wedding dress,’” the actor recalled. “I said, ‘I didn’t push you. I think you jumped.’ She said, ‘No, no, you pushed me.’ Her son was standing there watching us and he said, ‘Oh, seems like you have the same relationship with my mother that I have!’ I said, ‘Well, I actually had this relationship with your mother way before you were even thought about!’ This has been our working relationship from the get-go.”

James hasn’t been seen since 2011, but Buchanan confided to us that he’ll be available for as long as B&B needs him. “I can be,” he declared. “I’m available. I’m very happy to be here and my schedule is pretty much open.”

What will happen when James and Sheila come face-to-face after so many years? Stay tuned to find out!

Check out some classic photos from Buchanan’s impressive acting career in the special gallery below!

THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL Spoilers 7/17/17 — Has Steffy Killed Sheila?

A terrible mistake leaves a life hanging in the balance in these spoilers from THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL!

Fearing that Sheila had a weapon on her, Steffy and Liam rushed over to the hotel where Eric was hiding out to rescue him. And when Sheila reached into her bag, Steffy pulled out Stephanie’s gun and shot the villain! “Steffy, what the hell?!” Eric cries, rushing to Sheila’s side as she lays on the floor of the hotel room. “What have you done?!” Liam tries to stand in the middle of the chaos as a shaken Steffy continues to hold the gun on an unconscious Sheila. “She has a gun in her bag!” Steffy insists. Just how much damage has she done?

Over at Forrester, unaware of the drama that is unfolding, Ridge worries to Quinn that his daughter will soon uncover the truth. “Steffy knows that dad moved out,” he sighs. “And before long she’s gonna put it all together.” Quinn is ready to face the music and thinks it’s time for him to do the same. “This is not a conversation I want to have with my kids,” Ridge argues. “I want to try to avoid it.” Quinn throws up her hands and declares: “A conversation that we’ve failed at having miserably!” How will Steffy react when she learns just how close Ridge and Quinn have gotten? Hopefully, she won’t still have the gun at that point!

Don’t miss this tease for today’s shocking episode, and for more B&B previews, keep reading the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth magazine!

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Max Page to Meet With Congressional Leaders About Children's Health Care

Diagnosed at birth with a congenital heart defect, Max Page (ex-Reed, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) has undergone a dozen heart surgeries, and is representing Children’s Hospital Los Angeles at the 2017 Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Day in Washington D.C. to meet with congressmen about better child health care policies. He traveled there with his parents, Jennifer and Buck, and brother, Ellison.

“I hope that I can be the face for healthcare and show them that kids have health problems and that we didn’t do anything to deserve this,” Page told People. “It just happened to us.”

Page, who also became famous for playing the Darth Vader Kid in the 2011 Volkswagen Super Bowl Commercial, was back in the hospital again this January with a heart infection, and thanks to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, was back in fighting shape in no time.

“It’s important to share stories,” Page explained. “I want the Senators to put a face to children’s health care. I tell them my story, what surgeries I have had, and how much I needed my doctors now and in the future.”

      https://www.instagram.com/p/BWfMAN0AWy7/

Because Page’s rare condition will require lifelong medical care, his parents worry how their son will be able to find insurance to pay for his numerous bills as he grows older. And with possible cuts to Medicaid being considered, his family wants to make sure Page and other children are taken care of.

“If the funding gets cut,” Page admitted, “there might not be the care there for me and other kids. It’s always in the back of my mind.”

This is Page’s sixth year traveling to D.C. to advocate on behalf of children’s health care, but this visit may just be the most important one. We wish him all the best and hope he’s able to help bring about some positive change!

What Happened to Chloe on Y&R? — Elizabeth Hendrickson Reveals What's Next!

Over the years, Elizabeth Hendrickson has had quite a ride as Chloe Mitchell on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, but unfortunately, the actress’ latest stint on the soap has come to a close.

Hendrickson joined Y&R back in 2008 as the manipulative bad girl, and after splitting up Cane and Lily in a failed attempt to snag the Aussie for herself, endured a string of failed relationships. After her daughter, Delia, survived leukemia, the little girl was killed in a tragic hit-and-run accident that changed Chloe’s life forever.

Chloe left Y&R in 2014, returning briefly in October for the anniversary of Delia’s death that year, and then again at the same time in 2015 where she was revealed to be working with Victor to get revenge on Adam for running down her little girl.

In July of 2016, Hendrickson returned full time to the role when Chloe came back to Genoa City with her daughter, Bella. During her most recent stint, not only did she finally reveal the paternity of her little girl (Sorry, Billy, she's Kevin's kid!) but the truth about exactly what she did to Adam finally came out!

On the day Chloe was to marry Kevin, the truth that she'd set up Adam to die in the horrific explosion came out and she went on the run to escape the long arm of the law. Chelsea and Nick tracked her down only to discover she'd met a tragic fate, but her character had ony faked her death to escape justice. When she informed Kevin, he left Genoa City with their daughter so they could all live as a family. In hiding, but at least they're all together!

Relive Chloe’s entire dramatic history in Genoa City through our special flashback gallery below!
