How Patrika Darbo Kept Her B&B Role A Secret
April 15, 2017 8:35AM
It took Patrika Darbo (Shirley, B&B; ex-Nancy, DAYS) two decades to land a role on B&B, and she is so thankful to be a part of the cast. In the new issue, the actress reveals how the news of her joining a new soap nearly got out. “I remember walking into DAYS in January and someone said, ‘I hear you’re going over to another show.’ I was panic-stricken,” she recalls. “This was at 6:15 in the morning and I was like, ‘I don’t know how you found out but you can’t say anything to anyone!’ There I was, waking my agent up at 6:30 going, ‘I didn’t say anything but the cat is out of the bag.’ It just created chaos. Luckily, it didn’t get out but we were walking on eggshells. It was terrifying.” For more from Darbo, who talks aboutthe long road to B&B and more, check out the new issue of Soap Opera Digest, on sale now.Auditioning stories: http://www.soapoperadigest.com/photos/5-audition-stories/
Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH), Bryan R. Dattilo (Lucas, DAYS), Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, AMC), Hillary B. Smith (Nora, GH and OLTL), and Michelle Stafford (Nina, GH; ex-Phyllis, Y&R).
Soap Vet On Fatherhood
April 14, 2017 4:43PM
In the new issue of Digest, on sale now, soap vet Ricky Paull Goldin (ex-Dean, ANOTHER WORLD et al), who is expecting a second son in June with Gretta Monahan, opens up about his greatest role yet: fatherhood. “It’s taught me so much,” he reflects. “I think it’s the best thing that can happen to a performer. I think it’s the best thing that can happen to any human being because it teaches you not to be so self-involved, narcissistic and self-centered. Even if you want to be those things or you are those things, you just can’t be all the time because they take your time and your attention. They need your love and your guidance, and they need you. It’s so clichéd to say you don’t know love until you have a child to love. I mean, it’s true.” For more from the actor, get your copy of Digest now!Interview!
Soap Newcomer - Tristan Lake Leabu
April 12, 2017 10:01AM
How was your character described to you?
“That Reed is a teenage boy who is having some trouble fitting in at his mom’s house after being away for so long and they would kind of butt heads. It also said in the character description that he played music.”
Is this what most attracted you to the role?
“Yes! When I read that, I got amped up to audition. I brought a guitar and played a little bit, which wasn’t requested, but the character description said he relieved his tension through music.”
Who did you screen-test with?
“I actually didn’t have a screen test, but on the callback, Amelia [Heinle, Victoria] and Jason [Thompson, Billy], read scenes that Reed would be in, so it was still the audition format. Those guys were wonderful and it felt great reading with them.”
How did you find out that you landed the role?
“My manager called me and said, ‘They’d love for you to play this character, do you want to do it?’ And I said, ‘Of course, that’d be amazing!’ She said, ‘Right now, it’s 6 p.m. and you’re filming three episodes tomorrow, and they need you there at 5 in the morning, so here are 18 pages, and be ready.’ So, I went home, buckled down and learned my lines.”
How was your first day?
“It was a pretty hectic day, but once I got on set it went really smoothly and we breezed through it, and it’s been a joy ever since.”
Have you gotten any fan reaction yet in person?
“I didn’t know one of my best friends watches B&B and Y&R all the time. He saw me on Y&R and freaked out. He was so excited! It was really funny.”
Interview!
Soap Newcomer - Abhi Sinha
April 11, 2017 4:10PM
What do you remember about your first audition?
“When I walked in and saw everyone else who was auditioning, I remember thinking, ‘This is the most Indian men I’ve ever seen in one place in Los Angeles.’ ”
Did you screen-test with anyone?
“Believe it or not, no one, because they ended up hiring me from a tape of my audition. I was shocked I didn’t have to go to a screen test or callback.”
How did you celebrate?
“After I called my parents with the news, I just started thinking of things I could do for the character, so there was less celebration and more preparation.”
Have you watched soaps before?
“I actually grew up with DAYS OF OUR LIVES and GENERAL HOSPITAL on in our house, so it’s been interesting watching the dynamics between the characters of this particular show.”
What was your first day like?
“I was a little scared because every single person asked me, ‘Are you ready? Do you know your lines because it goes quick?’ I was thrown off a little, but once I got through the first day, I realized I actually enjoyed this format and the pace.”
Are the glasses yours or Ravi’s? “Ravi’s. They’re not prescription but my eyes are legitimately awful, so I’m wearing contacts behind those fake glasses.”What’s been your most challenging scene?
“A month in, I had a very big monologue of Ravi talking about his childhood. That was definitely a challenge but fun as well to reveal a part of the character.”

THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL Spoilers 4/17/17 — Thomas Learns the Awful Truth About Sally!
Today at 10:55 amSpectra’s latest fashion show may have seemed like a smash hit at first, but now that the truth is out, everything is on the verge of exploding in these spoilers from THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL!
Persuaded by R.J. to support Sally by attending Spectra’s presentation, Thomas was horrified when he saw the designs and realized they were all stolen from Forrester! Furious, he confronts the girl he thought he loved. “You betrayed my family!” he angrily accuses Sally. “That’s our entire collection on your runway.” Knowing that Thomas is right, Sally can’t even bring herself to say anything in her defense. “I swore up and down that you were a good person,” Thomas complains. With her voice breaking, Sally tearfully admits, “I tried to be.” Is this the end for their budding romance?
Meanwhile, out on the show floor, Jarrett is a seasoned enough fashion reporter to know that there’s something up with Spectra’s newest line. “I have some questions about this remarkable collection,” he says to Saul, “and the new direction Spectra’s taking.” Can Saul come up with a good enough excuse as to why these designs look nothing like the first ones Sally displayed?
Coco is furious to see all of Forrester’s latest designs on Spectra’s runway and worries what R.J. will think of her family stealing their designs. “I didn’t have anything to do with this!” she insists. Shirley agrees, warning the girl, “And you keep saying that, honey. To anyone who asks!”
https://youtu.be/mk-Qi1jVRPcTHE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS Spoilers 4/17/17 — Nikki Tells Victor to "Go to Hell!"
Today at 10:21 amVictor may have met his match in these spoilers from THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS!
Nikki, Victoria, and Nick all know the awful truth that Victor conspired with Chloe to frame Adam for murder, but the rest of the Newmans are blissfully in the dark. However, that hasn’t stopped Victor from trying to manipulate some of his family members into being on his side even if they aren't aware there are sides to be taken. But knowing her husband all too well, Nikki sees right through his devious actions and has had quite enough of it. “Oh go to hell, you lying son of a bitch,” she spits at him. How will Victor respond to her venom?
Reed was over the moon when his grandfather bought him a car for his birthday, but Victoria is convinced that Victor is just trying to manipulate her side of the family and keep her quiet so she doesn’t spill the beans about his involvement with Chloe. “it kills me to do this,” she reluctantly warns her son, “and I’m really sorry, Reed, but you can’t keep the car.” Is she making the right call?
Ashely traveled to New York for the conference with Ravi, but it looks like she’s going to be spending the evening with someone else! “Oh, we should definitely talk,” she assures Benjamin. The businessman pours on the charm, smiling and suggesting, “Yeah. Over dinner, maybe tonight at the new restaurant here?” How will Ravi feel about being thrown aside for another man?

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS Comings and Goings — Ashby Twins Recast as Teens!
Apr 14, 2017 at 11:35 am
Kids grow up so fast these days! At least on daytime soaps, they do! THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS has announced that Lily and Cane’s twins are being recast and aged into teenagers! Beginning on Wednesday, May 24, Mattie will be played by Lexie Stevenson and Charlie will be played by Noah Alexander Gerry.
They will be replacing McKenna Roberts as Mattie and Brandin Stennis as Charlie, who only took over the role from Aidan Alexander on Dec. 22, 2016.The twins were born via surrogate when Mac agreed to carry a child for her friend, Lily, who was suffering from ovarian cancer and had to have a hysterectomy. However, Mac only gave birth in 2010 so the kids should only be in kindergarten. But now it looks like Lily and Cane are going to have to deal with teenager problems on Y&R!
Gerry has appeared in an episode of the Disney Channel series A.N.T. FARM, and Stevenson has no credits at all on her IMDb page. But she posted a video on Instagram to share her excitement at her big break. “I know it’s crazy and unbelievable, and I’m still trying to process it in my mind,” she confessed. “I was very fortunate to be able to come home this week before I really got into filming so I could share this very special time in my life with my family.

Apr 14, 2017 at 1:32 pmSoap fans will be able to watch the 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards live on Sunday, April 30, although sadly not on television. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has announced that this year’s ceremony will be live-streamed on both Facebook Live and Twitter-Periscope Producer beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
“The National Academy is thrilled to be streaming this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards to all our fans,” said David Michaels, SVP, Daytime. “With Mario Lopez and Sheryl Underwood as our hosts and so many wonderful presenters, it’s going to be a great evening for daytime!”
Among the star-studded list of presenters for the evening are THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke) and John McCook (Eric), DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Billy Flynn (Chad) and Marci Miller (Abigail), GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Kelly Monaco (Sam) and Dominic Zamprogna (Dante), and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Bryton James (Devon) and Mishael Morgan (Hilary).
There will also be appearances by B&B’s Karla Mosley (Maya), Reign Edwards (Nicole), and Jacob Young (Rick), GH’s Sonya Eddy (Epiphany) and Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon), DAYS’ Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe) and Eric Martsolf (Brady), and Y&R’s Tristan Lake Leabu (Reed). And look for a special musical performance by Y&R alum Max Ehrich (ex-Fen)!
The last time the Daytime Emmys were televised was when cable network Pop aired the 2015 ceremony, following an ill-fated attempt to webcast the show in 2014. Last year’s Emmys were not aired or streamed at all but were released shortly afterward for viewing online. But on Sunday night, soap fans will be able to watch the entire show live by visiting the official Daytime Emmy Awards Facebook page or their Twitter page.
Daytime Emmys 2017: Watch the Official Reels for Supporting Actress!
Apr 12, 2017 at 3:19 pmAs we near the Sunday, April 30, airing of the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, The National Academy of Arts and Sciences has been releasing the official reels that the actors submitted in order to earn their nominations… and hopefully the win!
Below you can take a look at the scenes submitted by Outstanding Supporting Actress nominees Stacy Haiduk (ex-Patty, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), Anna Maria Horsford (Vivienne, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL), Finola Hughes (Anna, GENERAL HOSPITAL), Kate Mansi (Abigail, DAYS OFOUR LIVES), and Kelly Sullivan (ex-Sage, Y&R).
Stacy Haiduk (ex-Patty, Y&R)
Although Haiduk wasn’t on full-time during 2016, the episodes she was in showcased her incredible talent. Her reel begins with Patty’s return to Genoa City where she breaks down as Paul forces her to face her crimes and return to the hospital. It continues as Patty struggles with her hospitalization, begging Paul to protect her, and ends with her taunting Dylan and Sharon with the truth about their child.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiDD8nbE-xgAnna Maria Horsford (Vivienne, B&B)
Horsford had some juicy material over the past year as Vivienne learned that her husband fathered another child. Her submission contains all the scenes from the episode where Vivienne reacted to Julius’ confession and angrily throws him out before breaking down in tears with her two daughters.
https://youtu.be/0AO5uhBkmHMFinola Hughes (Anna, GH)
Hughes starts her reel with the comedic scene where Anna bantered with Paul at the bar while waiting for her blind date, followed by the scenes where Robin told her mother about moving away for a new job. It then segues into the scene where Anna talked Sonny out of shooting Carlos in the chapel and concluded with Anna confronting Carlos once he’s finally behind bars.
https://youtu.be/sZuwSuVVmhkKate Mansi (ex-Abigail, DAYS)
Mansi’s final year on DAYS gave her plenty of amazing material to choose from, starting with Abigail’s fake seduction of Ben so she could tie him up and set him ablaze only to be stopped in the nick of time by Chad. The rest of her reel showcases the scenes where an emotionally broken Abigail is forced to commit herself to a mental institution.
https://youtu.be/qVB7fPiAjRUKelly Sullivan (ex-Sage, Y&R)
Sullivan naturally selected part of her dramatic exit from the soap for her Emmy reel, which is made up of the scenes from the episode where Sage confronted Sharon about lying regarding Sully’s true identity and demanded she give the baby up.
https://youtu.be/Uod8C11Ugc4Now that you’ve seen all the same scenes that the official Emmy voters have, you know what a difficult decision they have trying to pick a winner from all these talented actresses!

Daytime Emmys 2017: Watch the Official Emmy Reels for Lead Actress!
Today at 5:01 pmThe 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are coming up fast, and leading up to it, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences have been releasing the submission reels of the nominated actors so fans can see exactly the same scenes that the judges are when they vote on who should win the Emmy!
Check out these incredible reels from Lead Actress contenders Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GENERAL HOSPITAL), Gina Tognoni (Phyllis, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), Heather Tom (Katie, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL), Jess Walton (Jill,Y&R), and Laura Wright (Carly, GH) and see if you can predict who will be the winner!
Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH)
Grahn had plenty of meaty material to sink her teeth into over the past year, and for her official Emmy reel, she went with a variety of scenes where Alexis pushed Julian away after he learned she was pregnant, when the lawyer woke up after her drunken one-night stand and tried to keep her composure when confronted by Jax, getting drunk with Julian, and responding to Julian’s confession where he tried to make things right.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R490o6_Ofxk
Gina Tognoni (Phyllis, Y&R)
Tognoni’s powerful reel starts with Phyllis on the stand angrily testifying about how Victor hired Marco to impersonate Jack, then continues after the trial where she opened up to Billy. The final scenes on her reel were the ones in which Jack confronted Phyllis about sleeping with his brother, Billy and she begged him not to leave her.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q19DabpMfEk
Heather Tom (Katie, B&B)
Tom’s reel opens with the scene where Katie is shocked to find Brooke hiding under her bed and assumes the worst, then continues with her accusing Bill and Brooke of having an affair behind her back. Next is the scene where Bill confronts Katie about her drinking, followed by the scenes where she regains her strength and tells Bill and Brooke exactly what she thinks of them destroying her family.
Jess Walton (Jill, Y&R)
For her Emmy reel, Walton selected scenes where Jill berates Billy for his drinking and bad behavior, warns Phyllis to stay away from Jack and Billy, and unloads on everyone in the hospital as they wait for word on Billy’s condition.
Laura Wright (Carly, GH)
Wright chose to open her tape with a sweet scene where Carly gave Morgan the jade medallion, followed by one where she begged Sonny not to assassinate Julian. Then she showcases her talent with the emotional scenes where Dante tells Carly that Morgan has died, and she breaks down in grief. Next are the scenes where she opened up to Michael and left Sonny, and it concludes with her leaning on Jason for support.
Now that you’ve seen each and every one of the official submissions in the Lead Actress category, you know just how difficult the decision is for the judges to try and select a winner! Don’t forget to tune in at 8:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 30, to find out who takes home the gold!

Reed and Zoey marvel at the car - Nikki and Vicky are shocked. They go off to discuss. Billy, Reed, Zoey and Kendall sit in the car and Reed promises to be responsible.
Abbey arrives at the ranch and greets Victor - she asks about the bruise on his face. He says it was a sparring session with Nick. She wants to talk about Chloe but Victor says he doesn't want to talk about it. He has a request for her. He recognizes her interest in Newman, something her siblings lack, and wants to make something more official. He's naming her acting CEO. She is overjoyed.
Juliet gives a presentation for Jordan and Lily about their upcoming campaign and tour. Cane comes in and finds out Lily will be leaving for Philadelphia tonight. Juliet and Lily chat about business and Cane and Jordan make awkward small talk - Jordan detects a weird vibe about Cane and Cane makes excuses. Jordan and Lily leave, and Cane accuses Juliet of still being hung up on their night in Tokyo. She says the only one uncomfortable or hung up is him. She just wants to go back to the way it was before, but Cane doesn't know if he can.
Ravi and Ashley debrief over drinks in NY. Ravi speaks knowledgeably about cosmetics and Ashley is impressed. She is glad she brought him to NY. She suggests ordering some drinks but he says he has a better idea. They go to leave but Benjamin Hawkman greets Ashley, largely ignoring Ravi. He suggests they grab dinner to talk business and she agrees, ditching Ravi, albeit politely. He says he understands and she tells him to go out on the town and take in some shows, but Ravi warns Ashley that he is on the prowl - he is not wearing a wedding ring. At dinner, Benjamin and Ashley talk , but he is very distracted with various business calls, and Ashley is not impressed. She eventually texts him to ditch him. Meanwhile, Ravi sits alone at dinner and calls friends to join him. They immediately pick up that he is into Ashley, but he says she blew him off. As Ashley storms off, she walks past Ravi and his friends and sits down to join them. At the end of the evening, his friends hug him goodbye and one of them assures him that Ashley likes him. Ashley apologizes for blowing him off, and wishes him a good night.
Victoria and Nikki badmouth Victor for manipulating the situation.Victoria laments having to tell Reed he can't keep the car. She doesn't want to undo the progress she's made with him, but knows that if she lets Victor win, he'll keep pulling these power plays. They go out and tell Reed it's time to call it a night. He drives his car home with Billy. When they get in, Reed is gushing about the car and Victoria is heartbroken to tell him he can't keep it. Reed flips out but Victoria blames Victor for buying it without talking to her first. Reed says she ruined the best night of his life and storms off. Billy tries to figure out what is going on, as he can tell Victoria is broken up by it. Victoria shuts him down and suggests he should leave. He storms out.
Nikki walks in as Abbey leaves - she says he offered Abbey a better position at Newman to keep her loyalty, and blasts him for buying Reed the car. He claims he ordered it weeks ago. She learns that Faith has left, and is happy Nick took her - Faith would have figured out something was wrong. He says he's not going to let her ruin his relationship with the grandkids and Abbey.

Y&R HAS moves Robert Adamson(Noah) back to contract. IMHO, Tracey E. Bregman(Lauren) and Lauralee Bell(Christine) should also be back on contract, along with Jess Walton(Jill).
