      Endangered Species Postage Stamps Release

Images of Antigua & Barbuda’s endangered animals will now be sent all over
the world in the form of postage stamps to be released on Monday, August
12th by the Post Office. All persons are encouraged to visit our post
office and buy these stamps – and then send them to friends around the world
to help raise awareness of these precious natural resources!

The stamps are presented on an attractive sheetlet with nine images, with
each stamp valued at EC$1.50 (the price of a 1/2 oz. letter to the USA or
UK). They depict the Antiguan racer snake, hawksbill turtle, queen conch,
spiny lobster, ground lizard, West Indian whistling duck, red billed
tropicbird, brown pelican, and the magnificent frigatebird.

The EAG’s offshore islands conservation project aims to conserve endangered
species and habitats in the northeast section of Antigua. Many species of
animals and plants are threatened in Antigua & Barbuda due to the
introduction of invasive predators (such as mongoose and rats), habitat
loss, and pollution. The postage stamps will raise awareness of the plight
of some of these threatened animals. For more information, check out
      www.antiguanracer.org.

The EAG would like to thank the Post Office for their collaboration in the
release of these stamps, which were generously sponsored by the Walt Disney
Conservation Foundation and Bernhardine Fund. The stamp boasts original
work by local artist Katie McConnachie.

Persons interested in purchasing the stamps are encouraged to do so from
Monday, August 12th when they will be officially launched by the Post
Office. An informal ceremony to launch the stamps will be held on Tuesday,
August 13th. For more information, please contact the EAG.

Note: If you are an overseas stamp collector, please contact us to arrange
some way for you to purchase stamps through us at the cost of EC$27 (US$10)
per sheetlet, with a portion of that proceed going back into the
      conservation project.
