Some more info to add to Joel's November posting on the eco-development

One of the principal partners in this project is Bioregional, an
environmental organisation in London (homepage at
http://www.bioregional.com ). Here is their page on the Portuguese
project, at Mata de Sesimbra, south of Lisbon:

      http://www.bioregional.com/programme_projects/opl_prog/portugal/
      portugal_hmpge.htm

Another interesting read is the page on their first "zero emissions
development", BedZED, where they are now headquartered:

      http://www.bioregional.com/programme_projects/ecohous_prog/bedzed/
      bedzed_hpg.htm

More detailed info on this on the "ZEDFactory" site of Bill Dunster
Architects, also headquartered in BedZED, with sections on other
      interesting projects in the works:

      http://www.zedfactory.com/home.html

...and at the BedZED site itself:

      http://www.bedzed.org.uk/index.htm

For anyone who's interested, I recommend Googling "BedZED". You'll get
nothing but direct hits, and most of them will have a lot of very
      interesting information.

Another page from Bioregional, on a project in its first stages for a
more largescale ZED in the London area, with at least a carfree centre.
You can download two PDFs from here, one of them a detailed report on
the initial planning proposal, which could prove useful in thinking
about planning carfree developments in general:
