      Dear All:

I met with a fellow yesterday who is working on a number of projects
related to elementary school transportation in Metro Vancouver, BC,
Canada. One program aims to promote the use of sustainable
transportation options amongst elementary school students by
encouraging them to come up with their own solutions and supporting
these accordingly. Another involves convening stakeholder groups
from municipalities and school communities to come up with
comprehensive school transportation strategies. Omar Bhimji, the
Project Manager of the Hub for Action on School Transportation
Emissions, is seeking a researcher to study the efficacy of the
various approaches contained within the programs. Through a
partnership with the Columbia Institute and the MITACS Accelerate
program he has $15,000 in funding available to grant the
researcher. This sounded like the perfect project for a Masters
level student interested in sustainable transportation-- a concrete
issue, association with an established organization, and
funding. The researcher/student would be actively involved in
designing and implementing the study from start to finish.

      Here is Omar's contact information:

Please pass on to other nodes of potential interest.

      Sincerely yours,

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country
best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus
you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a
high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of
country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle."
