Videos - Two Peñalosas
- A couple of interesting videos I came across today by coincidence
while looking for other material, with the two brothers Peñalosa, well
known for their role in transforming Bogotá's transportation system to
something much more people-friendly.
One, at the Streetfilms site (4:30), is a general short (4:30) clip
about Enrique Peñalosa's recent visit to Boston and how Bostonians are
inspired by his ideas:
"Streetfilms' Robin Urban Smith hopped a bus to Boston to hear world
renowned urban strategist and champion of the livable streets
movement, Enrique Peñalosa speak at the Boston Public Library.
According to our friends at the LivableStreets Alliance, who organized
his four day visit, more than 1,000 Bostonians attended the various
events planned in his name.
Aptly nicknamed the "The Hub," or "The Walking City," Boston boasts
the oldest subway system in North America and has the highest light
rail ridership of any U.S. city."
The other is a much longer record of an excellent talk given by Gil
Peñalosa at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia in August 2008
(including a superb mini-documentary - 10:38 long - about cycling and
walking in Denmark and the Netherlands, produced specifically for
"Walking, Bicycling and Public Spaces: Experiences from Bogota and
An evening with Gil Peñalosa, Executive Director, Walk and Bike for Life
August 20, 2008, Vancouver
Co-sponsored by Translink, the SFU City Program, the City of Vancouver
and the Vancouver Public Space Network."
The talk is divided into several clips. As each clip plays, it is
highlighted in black in the list of titles that appear below the video
window. You can skip between clips by clicking on whichever title
