He originated the idea of proxemics, the study of the effects on
living things of varying distances of separation and crowding. It's a
fascinating book, starting from tests on rats and moving through the
manifestation of these ideas in art and literature. Then he discusses
the how different cultures have evolved their own rules and customs.
All based on inherent, sub-conscious behaviors. He then applies these
ideas to how cities are designed and developed. The passages in the
