According to Vauban resident Andreas Delleske (one of the
initiators of the project), in the end of 2006 ~1,700 households live in the
      whole Vauban area.

Surprisingly, in both parts of Vauban, the small conventional one (with
cars, in the north, some hundred households) and the larger
parking-place-free part (around Vauban-Alley), the share of carfree
      households is the same: ~60%.

And, better: From that 40% of people in the parking-place-free area who
buyed a parking place (in one of both garages at the rim), only 50% have a
car! That not only means they wasted their money, but also, that 80% of all
Vauban residents in the parking-place-free part don`t have a car.

Older data said there are only 50% carfree households in Vauban. So the
dynamic is becoming better and better.

An evaluation from June 2003 said, that 57% of the carfree households gave
up their car when moving in.

What a fantastic success for climate protection and traffic safety !
