Chester guided busway gets the go-ahead
Proposals for a new guided busway to serve the city of Chester have been
approved, Planning Minister Lord Falconer announced today.

This decision by the Secretary of State is in line with the inquiry
      inspector's recommendation.

Cheshire County Council's scheme involves the construction of a 3.2 km long
guided busway running from a new park and ride site at Hoole along a former
railway line towards the centre of Chester. After leaving the former
trackbed, buses will proceed to the city centre partly on existing streets.

Commenting on the decision, Lord Falconer said:

"This proposal for a modern, attractive guided bus service to Chester city
centre will bring important benefits to this historic city. It will make the
city centre more accessible, which will help to maintain the local economy,
while avoiding the environmental damage that would arise from providing for
      increased car access.
