      ===============================================

This is a reminder that the Thursday CAOUG
meeting will be held on the UAB campus. Parking
on the street is recommended on 13th Street
between 5th Avenue South and 10th Avenue South,
      or on 5th Avenue South.

      ------- prior message -------
The Central Alabama Oracle User Group meeting for November 16,
2000 will feature Dr. Barrett R. Bryant, associate professor
at the UAB Department of Computer and Information Sciences.

Dr. Bryant's topic will be :

"USING JAVA TO CONECT TO ORACLE DATABASES."

The meeting will be held in UAB's Campbell Hall, Room 435
from 11:30-1:00. Campbell Hall is on the corner of 13th Street and
University Blvd. This day is during final exam week when not all
classes meet, so parking should be available on the street -
at least within 2-3 blocks. The presentation is scheduled
to begin at 12:00, so you may wish to come early to find
parking and socialize. This a 'brown bag' event - bring
      your own lunch!

UAB offers a variety of courses on topics such as Oracle
Programming, Database Administration, Linux, PERL, and Java
through their Continuing Education programs. You may wish
to check out their web site at www.cis.uab.edu, Continuing
      Education.

      =======================================

      See you all there.

        PRESENTATION OVERVIEW
        ----------------------------------------------------------

TOPIC:          Oracle Portal and Discoverer 4i, an Excellent Partnership
        PRESENTER:      DCC

This presentation will discuss and demonstrate how Discoverer 4i
can be used for Analysis as a Portal component of 9i Application
Server Enterprise Edition.  These tools can be registered as an
external application in Oracle Portal and can be used to perform
financial and other business analysis in a Web-Based Portal
        environment.

DCC will illustrate how reports, once generated in Discoverer 4i,
can be viewed by selected user groups within an organization in a
secure manner.  One administrator can maintain all reports in one
location. However, Portal's security layer will distribute an
organization's ability to view this information based on their
        position or responsibility.

Hope to see you all there.
