          Ons weet dat "dominee" in Afrikaans en Nederlands as die titel vir
          predikante in Calvinistiese kerke gebruik word. Ek verstaan ook dat
          die Nederlandse Gereformeerde Kerk in Amerika, die
          verbuiging "dominie" as predikantstitel gebruik.

          Ek vermoed dat min buite Skotland weet dat laasgenoemde variant
          ("dominie") ook daar voorkom, waar dit meer tipies 'n skoolhoof se
          titel is. ('n Argaïese weergawe "domine" was vir beide predikante
          en onderwysers gebruik.)

          Let op dat in Afrikaans *skryf* ons "dominee", maar *sê* "dominie".
          So ver ek kan agterkom is die *uitspraak* in Skotland soortgelyk as
          in Afrikaans. Kyk mens egter na die *spelvorms* "dominee"
          en "dominie" met 'n *Engelstalige* bril, dan lyk dit asof die
          Skotte "dominie" *skryf*, maar "dominee" *sê*.

          Die Latynse basis is dominus, wat heer/meester beteken.

          (Ek neem aan die afkorting "ds" verwys na "dominus".)

          Dalk kan iemand vir ons uitvind wanneer/waar die titel die eerste
          keer in gebruik geneem is?
