      advocates, officials and automakers from Michigan, California, Japan
      and elsewhere.....

      Below is the long-awaited full program for the June-11-12
      Brookings/Google conference on federal policy on PHEVs. Sign up now

      Two years after we first and our partners brought two PHEVs to
      Capital Hill (photos at http://www.calcars.org/phevs-in-dc.html ),
      carmakers say they'll sell them -- but not fast enough. As you can
      see at "Presidential Candidates Endorse PHEVs"
      http://www.calcars.org/phev-presidents.html (a preliminary page we'll
      be building out), all three candidates for President have seen PHEVs
      and praised them. We expect that the next months will convince the
      world's automakers that their "business as usual" business models for
      the world's largest auto market have to change. They'll have take
      into account the commitment of the next President (whoever it is) to
      accelerate and incentivize plug-in cars far beyond what we've seen to date.

      Here's how the main conference organizer, David B. Sandalow (author
      of "Freedom from Oil," which contains a roadmap for the next
      president and which you can order at

      Committee on Foreign Affairs:
      EXCERPT: To reduce oil dependence, nothing would do more good more
      quickly than making cars that connect to the electric grid. Plug-in
      electric vehicles are a game-changing technology. They can break our
      oil addiction, cut driving costs and reduce pollution. To help end
      the United States' oil dependence, there is no higher priority than
      putting millions of plug-in electric vehicles on the road soon. And
      here's the good news - these cars are on the way, soon. Yet Congress
      needs to act, to pick up the pace of this transition. Tax incentives
      for the purchase of these vehicles would quickly build the market.
      The federal government should use its enormous purchasing power to
      help bring these cars to market as well.
