The Parrot Club meeting May 14th, 2013
- The Parrot Club welcomes veterinarian Dr. Marc Valitutto as our speaker on May 14th. Dr. Valitutto will be speaking about a variety of clinical cases typically encountered in a zoological setting. He will also discuss some of the research he is publishing about zoo and avian veterinary medicine.Dr. Valitutto is the general curator and veterinarian for the Staten Island Zoo. He graduated from University of Pennsylvania veterinary school, and did his residency training at the Wildlife Conservation Society (Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Zoo and New York Aquarium). After WCS, he worked briefly as the head veterinarian for the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, which is a 3500 acre park dedicated to propagating endangered species, including various cranes, cheetahs, maned wolves, and Przewalski's horses. He has been at the Staten Island Zoo for about a year now, and is also the consulting veterinarian for Livingston Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy based in Litchfield, CT. Dr. Valitutto was recently seen on the Today Show with C.C., the adorable sloth!Pictured is Dr. Valitutto with a komodo dragon. Hopefully he won't be bringing it to the meeting!
