RE: [cablevision_digital] Re: Deal for satellite users?
I have to agree with your assessment. The 2 guys who did mine were contractors. By the way they worked my impression was they got paid on how many digital box installs they did in one day. I told him about a problematic set at the end of the longest run. It barely worked after he left. He never took readings on it. He just took readings on another set which had a direct path from the drop. I switched the leg to a lower loss output on the splitter to get the box working again. All is well.

The lockup problems are usually signal related problems --- bad
installs by technicians, who dont bother to check signal levels
before performing the installs... I have a perfect signal level
(luckily) coming from my drop, and I rarely, if ever, have problems
with the box locking up.. Nor do I have problems with pixelation as
others have reported (notice, usually the complaints go hand in
hand).. My installer never even measured the signal level.. Hooked
the box up, and set it up and was on his way... Fortunately, I had
them checked myself, along with the fact that my cable modem down
the line has excellent levels -- I knew they would be fine..
Seriously -- if Cablevision wants to make this whole iO thing work --
they better get on the case of their installers to make sure the
installs are being done properly.. That means signal levels should
be checked at each box location prior to hookup, and taking whatever
steps are necessary to get a good quality signal to the box to begin
with.. Most of the time, I've found that if the installer can get
the box to register, he considers his job done and goes on his way..
Is this the way it should be getting done? Wilt? Any comment on
this on what is supposed to be done on these 'professional'
installs? As it is now, they are doing absolutely NOTHING different
than what a home user would do with a self-install... What are
people paying $25 for?
