A few gotchas with that option however.
1: if it is flagged as first run multiple times a day, it will still get
recorded multiple times (I don't see that happen often, but I have seen
it happen on things like Monk and 4400 that are aired twice on their "new
2. relying on the First Run Flag is always a gamble. Not as much with
network programs, but cable channel programs often aren't flagged
correctly. I had to give up with Teen Titans using First Run because
cartoon network simply never flagged them correctly.
3. If this isn't first run programming you are trying to record, then all
bets are off. This is often a problem when trying to watch syndicated
programming that you haven't previously been up on (like when I went thru
my CSI phase and was watching it on Spike every night, none of it was
first run, but it was all new to me. There was no way to get the "new and
unique" episodes... as a result I often got the same episode 3 or 4 times
a week between all the reairing time slots... I still have the same
problem with Good Eats, there are episodes I've still never seen which
aren't "first run" so I have to record them all, which means many nights
I get two copies of each as I get the evening play and then the early AM

be able to provide a reliable guide
