Institute for Connectivity of Americas (ICA) and IDRC Support FLOSS for Telecentres in Latin America and the Caribbean
ICA and the International Development Research Centre/PAN Americas (IDRC) are pleased to support the development of the TC-Toolkit, a resource kit containing information about Linux and other FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) solutions. Designed for non-technical managers of telecentres in Latin America and the Caribbean, this resource aims to strengthen the adoption of FLOSS solutions in the region. Created in partnership with FundaciĆ³n ChasquiNet, this kit is part of a larger digital inclusion initiative supported by ICA and IDRC.

The TC-Toolkit is the result of a two-year study into ways to maximize the social, cultural, economic, and political benefits that telecentres provide to the community, even when resources (such as finances and trained staff) are scarce. This was carried out with the participation of members of the Somos@telecentros Network.

The TC-Toolkit includes a general overview of open-source software, a step-by-step guide for the installation and maintenance of Linux, and information on sustainability issues, as well as a list of system requirements, frequently asked questions, and a Linux manual to help provide technical support. The TC-Toolkit is available at www.tele-centros.org/toolkit2.0.htm
