La Posarela at Mission High School
Get into the holiday spirit with “La Posarela!” Community Music Center’s popular Christmas musical blends the Mexican traditions of las Posadas and las Pastorelas with social commentary and humor. The bilingual performance follows Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem in search of “posada” (Spanish for shelter). A mischievous devil tries to prevent them from finding shelter and misleads the three wise men in search for baby Jesus. Two angels with attitude intervene and a light-hearted fight between good and evil unfolds. Performers include members of CMC’s Latin Music Vocal Workshop, Mission District Young Musicians Program, Coro del Pueblo, Children’s Chorus and Senior Choruses. Join us for a fiesta afterwards with a piñata, atole and tamales!
Note location: Mission High School Auditorium, 3750 18th Street (at Dolores)
GENERAL ADMISSION: $5
Purchase tickets online at Eventbrite or at CMC’s Mission District Branch (Cash, Check or Charge). Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. Provided there is availability, tickets will go on sale at Mission High School’s box office at 1pm on Sunday, December 9.

The Shenson Faculty Concert Series Presents: The Portable Nutcracker
CMC guitar faculty member Zac Selissen and Michael T. Roberts have arranged this holiday suite for two classical guitars. When you distill a monumental work of 80 or 90 instruments down to a mere two, strange and miraculous things occur. There’s no room for anything more than the true essence of the work, so you have to pare all that beauty into its simplest form. What’s more, when an orchestra becomes two guitars, new colors emerge; personalities are transformed. We’ve found a tinge of country in the Chinese Dance, Latin overtones in the stately ‘Waltz of the Flowers,’ even some heavy metal in ‘Mother Goose of the Clowns’ (of all places). It’s still Tchaikovsky, without a doubt. But it’s also something else entirely. This is a special occasion for the duo, their CD-release party!
