Dear Friends of Potrero Traffic calming,

Last Saturday about 40 people came to a meeting that Supervisor Ammiano and the DPT called about proposed changes to Potrero. At last, the DPT has a plan that will make Potrero less like a freeway on-ramp and more like Valencia street. Out of more than 30 speakers, only one or two opposed the changes. Unfortunately, MUNI is requesting that there be no bike lanes and that they have a bus/bike lane. That would not make it safer for pedestrians or bicyclists. And then we wouldn't have the promised median safety islands.

Please please e-mail the Livable streets project Livable.Streets@... and/or Supervisors Ammiano Tom.Ammiano@...  and Sophie Maxwell Sophie.Maxwell@... demanding IMMEDIATE implementation of the original plan as outlined below. Send me a copy of your letter for a free hug.

DPT's plan would allow for bicycle lanes, a center turn lane, and pedestrian refuges, with only minor impacts on motor vehicle circulation

Speak up in favor of the following:

      • support DPT's original plan for Potrero, including lane removal, center turn lanes, and bike lanes
      • request that the project gets implemented by January 2005, as the City has committed to
      • support the widening of the bike lane/ parking lane by nine inches to 13'9"
      • support a phase 2 of the project that would extend south to Cesar Chavez and north to Division
