This is a ladybird larva.
If you are in the UK, this is the harlequin ladybird, an invasive species recently arrived from Europe.
If you are outside of the UK, it could be some other similar species.

Hi, I wonder if anyone knows what this is. its very small, the length of it is about the width of my little finger. Couldn't get a very clear picture but it was black with very short legs and a long body that curled around like a scorpion (but without the pincers!)
Look forward to any incite.
