as the attached soviet topo clearly shows in dash dot dotted subdivisional boundaries
contrary to the appearance of smaller scale maps
the probable tricorner of north mali & south mali with mauritania at 15n30 5w30
is not really a regional quadripoint as i had supposed but only a tripoint & near miss quadri

also & better because more dashing inclusive & expansive

but even tho this corner proves not identical with the northwest corner of mopti region
it is still at the exact southwest corner of timbuctu region
so not likely a problem for anyone

    on the other sideĀ
it was recently reported that douentza district all the way to hombori has resumed flying the flag of bamako after being recovered by progovernment militia apparently without effort
    so
the effective trijunction of north mali & south mali with burkina faso has definitely albeit quietly shifted northeast since the demise of azawad & now stands at the end of the mopti gao state line or at around 15n5 1w43
as shown on the linked map but not the attached one

      oops again
douentza has just fallen again to the islamists of north mali
      https://news.google.com/news/story?ncl=http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/09/01/islamist-rebels-seize-control-douentza/&hl=en&geo=us

so you can now mentally readjust this red bit back into the northern half of the butterfly
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cercle_of_Douentza.png
producing not quite the same result as the clean cut of the former azawad claim
      but close

the real question now tho is
are they quitting at douentza as the azawadis did
      or continuing toward mopti etc
