Boston's award-winning vocal jazz group Vox One will be presenting
their record release party for their fabulous new CD "Pure
Imagination" this coming Friday December 2 at the Regent Theater in

Pure Imagination, a collection of off-the-beaten track originals,
covers and spontaneous improvs, arrives on the heels of a several-year
hiatus in which group members pursued individual projects and honed
their techniques. Beginning as students and reuniting as faculty
members at Boston's Berklee College of Music, Jodi (Jenkins) Ainsworth
(soprano), Yumiko Matsuoka-Young (alto), Paul Stiller (tenor and vocal
percussion), Paul Pampinella (baritone) and Tom Baskett (bass) have
created what may be their most inventive CD to date.

Called "most adventurous and distinctive" by the San Francisco
Examiner, Vox One serves up a proprietary blend of musical ingredients
that push the boundaries of a variety musical styles and vocal
techniques. The group deftly infuses elements of jazz, folk, gospel,
blues and world music into a concoction of intricate musical
arrangements, inventive improvs, and interesting reharmonizations
which give familiar songs a new twist. A first-time listener of Vox
One may be amazed to hear a variety of instruments such as drums,
bass, horns, and guitar – all are produced completely by voices, and
performed with an uncanny authenticity on stage.

Vox One has performed throughout the US and internationally, both as
a headlining act and opening for such greats as Ray Charles, Chicago,
the Persuasions, the Woody Herman Orchestra, and the Count Basie
Orchestra. Recently, the group lent vocals to the title track on Ahmad
      Jamal's latest release, after fajr.

The group has earned wide acclaim for their performances and CDs,
including "Best A Cappella Group, Jazz" by Boston Magazine. Vox One's
eponymous debut CD was named "Best Album" and awarded "Best Song" by
the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America (CASA). Their second
US release Out There, (1995) won "Album of the Year," "Best Jazz
Song," and "Best R&B song" by CASA. The 1998 release, Chameleon,
earned Vox One CASA's "Artist of the Year," "Best Jazz Album" and
      "Best Jazz Song."
