COLLEGIATE QUARTETS BRING HIGH ENERGY TO COMPETITION
- More than 20 collegiate barbershop quartets square off in the finals
of the 16th annual Bank of America Collegiate Barbershop Quartet
Contest Saturday, July 7, 11 a.m. in the Pepsi Center.
The event is held in conjunction with the 69th annual international
convention of the Barbershop Harmony Society. This is the first time
the convention will be held in Denver.
Competing quartets will come from the USA, Canada, New Zealand and
Australia. Many hope to follow in the footsteps of previous collegiate
quartet winners Vocal Spectrum (2004) and Four Voices (1996), both of
whom went on to best the "big boys" and win international men's
quartet contests. Men In Black, 2007 Boston Harmony Sweepstakes
Winners, won this contest in 2006.
Like their counterparts in the Society's regular contest, these groups
have come through qualifying competitions to earn a spot in the
finals. Medals, trophies and bragging rights await the top five
finishers. This year, New England will be represented by a foursome
from UCONN called Storrs Four.
The college quartet contest is judged under the same rules and
criteria as regular Society quartets in international competition,
however the collegiate quartet contest only has one round. The men's
contest has three rounds.
While it is unlikely that any of you will be heading out to Denver
this weekend to watch the contest live, you CAN watch or listen the
contest live on the web. The contest will begin on Saturday July 7th
at 1 PM EST. Here is the web link for more info.
Any Singers interested in participating in the contest next year

Happy Fourth to All!
