Reported here because it's sovereignty-related:
Totally lost in this week's news surrounding the anticipation and birth of
the newest lineal heir to the British throne was the accession of a new King in
a nearby country.
On Sunday, His Majesty Philippe Léopold Louis Marie of the House of
Saxe-Coburg and Gotha became King of the Belgians upon the health-related
abdication of his father, who had reigned for 20 years. Philippe is a
53-year-old son of King Albert II and Queen Paola, who is of Italian
nobility. Philippe's wife Mathilde is the first Belgian-born queen consort
in the history of the Belgian monarchy. The heiress apparent is their
eleven-year-old daughter the Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant.
