    Ever, looks like a good circuit. Will the 3031 handle the 220VAC? The data sheet says max 250V peak, and 220VAC has a peak of ^300. Perhaps the 3041 would be a safer choice?? I have not built the circuit, so if you have done so and it works, then no problem.

    Use an optocpoupler as a intermediate stage between the triac and the AVR. The command current shouldn't exceed 20mA, if it does, use a transistor or a repeating/ inverting gate.
