Marilyn Bonaventure is the enthusiastic Co-President of the California Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers. She has been trying out new ideas and reaching out to like-minded organizations: calligraphers, paper makers, book artists, print makers. Here is what the Guild is doing in upcoming months:
> Hello to All,
> I have been working on an active year's program for the Guild of Book Workers' California Chapter as you can see from the following calendar that I have included in this email. I know that you are not members of the Chapter but hope that you might be enticed by the renewed energy. I hope that you might fine something of interest and plan to attend any or all of the events. It would be great to see you again.

> Rebecca Chamlee will give a presentation on Paper Choices for the Binder, Printer and Book Artist.
> Choosing the right paper for a book project can sometimes be a daunting task. The look and feel of the paper is a crucial part of the overall experience of the final piece. To get the best result, it is best to start thinking about the choice of paper before starting work.
> We will look at paper samples and comparison charts to understand the sometimes subtle differences in weight, surface texture, softness, versatility and color of a broad range of commercially available mould and hand made book and fine art papers. Letterpress test samples will show how different papers respond to printing with type, linoleum cuts and photopolymer plates.

Preparing marbling size, how to prepare papers for marbling and how to make simple combs will be covered. You will have a selection of papers to take away ready for use in bookbinding, craft and card making projects. Materials and tools will be provided. Its a messy process so wear work clothes or bring an apron.

Also consider volunteering to help a board member in some of the events that are on the drawing table right now.
