Sir Francis Bacon Foundation Internship in Conservation
The Huntington Library, Art Collections, & Botanical Gardens

Term: A starting date for the internship period may be scheduled
      anytime between September 1, 2007 and February 1, 2008, for a period
to last at least 5 months. Interns will receive a stipend of up to
$2,000 per month. Applications from conservation students at the
pre-program, summer employment, recent graduate, or third year
      internship level are appropriate.

The Huntington invites applications for an internship funded by the
Sir Francis Bacon Foundation. Working with direction from the
Huntington's Rare Book Conservator, the intern will address the
conservation of a variety of library materials. Through the practice
of conservation treatment techniques, the intern will advance their
own understanding of the underlying principals of conservation, and
the tools and techniques used in the conservation of library
      collections materials.

The primary focus of the internship will be on the practical
application of learned conservation treatment skills. The intern will
be instructed in the practice of various treatment techniques and the
circumstances under which each technique is appropriate. Conservation
treatments, materials, and strategies will be addressed. The intern
will work with the Preservation Department's Conservators, who will
make use of The Huntington's collections materials in providing
      instruction.

Interested candidates are advised to apply by July 16, 2007.

Qualifications: An appropriate four year college degree and
demonstrated commitment to a career in conservation, or a recent
Master's degree in Library/Information Science or Art History with
certificate in Conservation. Recommendations from 2 persons acquainted
with the applicant's academic or professional achievements. Candidates
must have the capability of being bonded, as may be required by the
      Huntington's insurer.

To apply send a letter of interest, resume, and the names, phone
numbers, and email addresses of two persons who can provide
      recommendations to:
