New to Group
- Hi All you boat builders! I am 61, medically retired, but wood is still in my skin, so to speak.
I have built one Kayak, and as many of us do, I modified it from the plans that were given to me by the designer. He had been building canvas covered ribbed Kayaks for Fifty years, along with stitch & glue, and other styles of water craft, I was happy to be in his shop, at all times!
I helped him turn upright, his largest vessel, a 24long X 12wide "water Home" powered by a small gas outboard, not fast, but it took him to the fish, where he would drop anchor, and live... for days at a time.
He rather liked the several modifications I made, and said it would be ocean worthy, IF that was a desire!, no, I did not take him up on that suggestion!
So that was my mentor. my desire is to build a light weight canoe or Pirogue ... for lakes only, a car topper ...
I was quite excited to see a link for this group, and hope to learn more, as my mentor moved away... to be with his new wife!
Skills in wood working, I have taught wood working, for the Special Services, arts & Crafts Shops, and I have built everything from log homes, Stick Homes, and was a specialty wood worker for a commercial hard wood flooring company, so I have both hard woods, and soft woods experience...
Well, that enough of an introduction, I look forward to being a member of this group!
