Hey All! Haven't been around in a while. But the boat building obsession never really went away...

In the interest of feeding the obsession, and not believing Phil's assertion that Wish II (in '30 Odd Boats') was "plain ugly" I modeled it using Google's free SketchUp 3d modeling program. Frames and all. To scale. Reasonably complete. There's even 3 people aboard, two of them resting comfortably belowdecks. SketchUp is probably not the best for modeling boats. It doesn't deal with curves easily (the sails are straight triangles, no draft), but Wish II's vertical sides and flat sharpie bottom weren't horribly difficult. The program allows import of jpegs. so the model was built basically by tracing the pics I took of the plans in the book, which was kind of neat.

I'll let others judge her looks. The link shows one view. If you download the program (free) you can orbit around and see all angles (including underwater) or zoom in on the cabin and see inside. There's also an x-ray and wire frame mode, to see even more details.

There is one other Bolger model in the sketchup '3d warehouse'. A micro.
