Are we saying that everyone is going to be gambling? No, that’s why I said it would leave “many of Hawthorne's residents on the street suffering from a financial burden due to gambling addiction”
I quote a study on casinos
“Lotteries tend to gather money from poor people to be spent on amusements for wealthy people.15 16 If a lottery widens inequalities of income it will have important implications for health, as shown by evidence of an association between inequality of income in industrialized countries and lower life expectancy”

      and

“Poor people spend a substantially higher proportion of household income on lottery tickets than the middle class and that lack of education was the strongest predictor of purchase.”

Vulnerable populations are defined as: Economically disadvantaged, racial and ethnic minorities, uninsured, low income children, and inadequate education. I feel like it’s safe to say that Hawthorne meets plenty of these requirements. Exposing the citizens to a Casino will be hazardous to their health.
Who is allowed in casinos? People over 21.
Who is legally allowed to drink? People over 21.
Who is allowed to work in a casino? People over 21
What activities occur in casinos? Gambling, drinking, smoking, other illicit activities.
I do not speak for all young people, however. I had just graduated from school, am having a hard time finding a job. I am in my early 20’s and find that life as we know it is not as easy as I once believed. I know plenty of my peers are not so resistant to temptation and would cave to the idea of “forgetting their worries” for a while and lose themselves in a casino. Am I babysitting them? No, I am using preventive measures to voice my opinion because I don’t want that to happen. I want everyone to have a sane change of making it in this world without having an extra unnecessary burden.

Am I babysitting the public? Not at all. Obviously, if we are intending on building a casino, means that we want to attempt to better our city. So why not start with the essentials first? We need establishments that everyone can benefit from. Perhaps, I am being selfish because I don’t like to gamble. I like to be entertained by other matters which is why I made some suggestions, which is how we should debate the matter. If I only use criticism and not provide options, it doesn’t seem to validate any of the claims.

“Those that gamble uncontrolably will always continue to do so and find it wherever they can”
Now do we want extra uncontrollable visitors tearing down the streets of Hawthorne because they need a place to gamble?

“But my opinion is not the whole city's opinion, and I know and respect that.  Do you?”
For future reference, I have never told you what to do. I simply stated my opinion. I never intended to offend anyone. I felt that I was diplomatic about my approach and did not single anyone out. I also didn’t feel that I was disrespectful in any form. My language was not accusatory or offensive and I expect everyone to express their ideas the same way

Oh, was this directed directly to me? If so, thank-you so much for the time you put into it. If it was NOT towards me, then please forgive. I have already

You name as illicit activities, smoking, gambling, Who determines illicitivy?

Just read your mail over and over, your arguments are persuasive and intelligent, thanks for that. So nice to read proper English, truly.

You're young, if I may say, calm down just a bit if you can....not everyone is bucking your beliefs, sometimes they just don't get what you are saying.

I think your opinions are valid, very well thought-out and expressed, you have 'caused me pause.

At this point I believe that we disagree on a few things but are on our way to finding something wicked nice.

Ball's in your court chica, play your cards well.

Look forward to your reply, K
